Travel to Reset

Sometimes you just need to take a trip.

Sometimes it takes two time zones and 1,500 miles.

Sometimes it takes staring into Lake Michigan for hours to sort out your thoughts.

There is something incredibly powerful about telling the waves and the wind your every qualm.  You pour out your heart out to the waves and the wind.  All of your baggage is unloaded on to them.  Yet nothing changes.  The tide still goes out and the wind still blows relentlessly.  The waves crash and the clouds roll in, but nothing you say matters to the waves or the wind.

So often my travels take me to the endless wonders of the world, but sometimes I need to step back to find the wonder in myself.  Sometimes I need to extract myself from all that is simple, easy and known to escape and see myself clearly again.

The sky breaks and the clouds dissipate.  The sky is as blue as the water.  The waves still crash and the wind still blows but my head is clear.  I thank the wind for it's resilience and the waves for their patience.

Sometimes that's all it takes.
